DST 2027 · planning guide
Eastern Time springs forward on Sunday, March 14, 2027 at 2:00 AM EST and falls back on Sunday, November 7, 2027 at 2:00 AM EDT – the latest dates the rule allows.
At 2:00 AM EST on Sunday, March 14, 2027, clocks across the Eastern zone jump to 3:00 AM EDT and the offset changes from UTC−5 to UTC−4. The instant is 07:00 UTC – Sun, Mar 14, 7:00 AM UTC in your own time zone. There is no 2:00–2:59 AM that night, so March 14 has 23 hours.
Central Time follows at 08:00 UTC, Mountain at 09:00 and Pacific at 10:00. For those three hours New York is four hours ahead of Los Angeles instead of three – harmless for people, but worth knowing if overnight systems on both coasts exchange data.
At 2:00 AM EDT on Sunday, November 7, 2027, clocks fall back to 1:00 AM EST. The instant is 06:00 UTC – Sun, Nov 7, 6:00 AM UTC for you. The hour from 1:00 to 1:59 AM happens twice, the day lasts 25 hours, and from 06:00 to 09:00 UTC New York is only two hours ahead of Los Angeles. After that the zone stays on EST until March 12, 2028.
Both dates are the latest possible: the second Sunday in March can fall no later than the 14th and the first Sunday in November no later than the 7th. That gives 2027 a long late-winter stretch of standard time, while EDT still lasts its usual 238 days. The 2026 record shows the opposite case, with the earliest possible dates.

Chile's Aysén and Magallanes regions stay on UTC−3 all year; Brisbane and the rest of Queensland do not change. Cuba skipped its November 2026 fall-back, so Havana has no March 2027 change.
Europe changes on March 28 and October 31, so North America is out of step for two weeks in spring and one in autumn. In those weeks New York is 4 hours behind London and 5 hours behind Paris, Berlin and Rome instead of 5 and 6. The affected business days are March 15–19, March 22–26 and November 1–5.
A 10:00 AM ET meeting therefore reaches London at 2:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM and Paris at 3:00 PM instead of 4:00 PM. Sydney adds its own shifts on April 4 and October 3, and Santiago's gap to New York runs from 2 hours in January to zero in the southern winter. The EST to GMT and EST to CET pages have full hour-by-hour tables for both cases.

2027-11-07T01:30-04:00 and 2027-11-07T01:30-05:00 are an hour apart; "1:30 AM ET" is not enough. In the United States only Congress can move them. The Sunshine Protection Act (H.R. 139), which would make daylight time permanent with a state opt-out, passed the House on July 14, 2026 by 308 votes to 117, but as of late 2026 it sits with the Senate Commerce Committee without a vote. The March 14, 2027 change is therefore still law; the daylight saving time guide tracks the federal and state proposals.
Two neighbors are worth re-checking before March. Quebec announced on October 28, 2026 that it will table a bill to end clock changes but has not chosen which time to keep: if it settled on standard time, Montreal would stay on EST while Toronto and New York move to EDT. And Cuba plans to fall back on November 7, 2027, an hour before the Eastern zone. The live Eastern Time clock always reflects the rule in force.
Yes. Both are on Eastern Time and both change at 2:00 AM local time, so the switch happens at 07:00 UTC on March 14 and 06:00 UTC on November 7 in both cities.
Not under the current rules. The second Sunday in March (8–14) can never be the last Sunday in March (25–31), and the first Sunday in November is always exactly one week after the last Sunday in October, so every year has a spring gap of two or three weeks and an autumn gap of one week.
13 hours, because Japan has no daylight saving time and only New York moves. A 9:00 AM EDT call is 10:00 PM in Tokyo. From November 7, 2027 the gap returns to 14 hours.
Arizona (outside the Navajo Nation), Hawaii and the US territories; in Canada, Saskatchewan, Yukon and, after their 2026 decisions, British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario west of 90°W. Mexico outside its border towns does not change either.
Sunday, March 12, 2028 (07:00 UTC) and Sunday, November 5, 2028 (06:00 UTC), both at 2:00 AM local time in Eastern Time.
